A message from your president, Jennifer Shearer:

Hello, WYRID members!                                                                                           November 2004

Happy holidays to all of you.

Fall Conference - In September, we had our fall conference. Sue Ann Vonfeldt, Sandi Johnson and Dianne Anderson presented an excellent Medical Interpreting workshop in Douglas. This workshop taught us strategies to use when interpreting biology, health and sex education classes in the K-12 setting, as well as, other community medical interpreting settings. It was a valuable workshop for all who attended. Unfortunately, not many people took advantage of the opportunity to attend. We had low turn out. I would like to thank all of you who came.

We hope to see more of you at our Spring Conference.

Update on the Standards - At the fall business meeting, we voted to send a second letter to the PTSB. The purpose of this letter is to encourage continued progress on educational intepreter standards. Please read a copy of this letter in this website. Any comments or concerns about this letter can be e-emailed to Jennifer Shearer before January 1st.

Congratulations, Sarah Dike! - As stated in the previous newsletter, Sarah Dike, an outreach consultant for the state, took the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) test. She scored a 4.1 on the test.

Regional Workshops - We are starting the first Winter Regional CD-ROM Workshops in Casper and Cheyenne. Everyone is invited to attend these workshops. There will be more information about these workshops coming soon.

May you all have enjoyable holidays!
