Patty Gordon Key Notes

This workshop is designed to introduce interpreters to an approach to voice interpretation. The goal of the workshop is to help interpreters maintain control of the interpreting process while generating meaningful and accurate interpretation. Strategies for practicing voicing will be addressed. Some work will also be done to address managing correction and clarification while interpreting.

Participants will:

* Be introduced to the Gish Approach to Information Processing

* Analyze texts for Goal, Theme and meaningful elements

* Practice Interpreting texts maintaining meaning

* Be introduced to a process for practicing voice interpretations

* Discuss strategies for correction of errors and clarification of meaning

Patty Gordon, CI, CT has a B.A. in Linguistics from Metropolitan State University. She has been a freelance interpreter working in performing arts, medical, governmental and cooperate settings for 13 years. In addition, she has served as a conference interpreter for NAD, RID, the Linguistic Society of America, and other national events. As an interpreter educator, she has taught at Western Oregon University. The college of St. Catherine in Minneapolis, and Front Range Community College in Denver. She is co-author of the MRID Self-Paced Modules for Educational Interpreter Skill Development and has taught workshops on various topics relating to ASL. interpreting and teaching interpreting.
